Special guests at the lunchtime panel were Bryan Mitchell, creator of the mega-selling Geared and Lima Sky’s Igor Pusenjak, co-creator of multi-million-app selling Doodle Jump to share their App Store experiences and to pass on a few marketing tips.

We talk a lot to developers about the power of a good video in the promotion of their iPhone and Android applications. This video for Everyday Looper just got added to the iPhone Arcade. It is a great example of how video can do so much to spark sales. A great app video is transparent, it shows exactly what the app does and why it is so great, and fun, it creates an aspirational element like, “I want to have that kind of fun,” or in this case, “I wish I had those skills!”).

We hope to share our insight, metrics and general thoughts about the business of mobile app discovery. The Mplayit community (Mobile Arcade, iPhone Arcade, Android Arcade and BlackBerry Arcade) is quite vibrant and never ceases to amaze us. iPhone Users ‘Got Game’

On the heels of Apple’s iPad announcement, we released a survey that underscores iPhone users’ strong interest in mobile games as compared to Android and BlackBerry users on our Arcades.

With games making up only 20 percent of the over 130,000 iPhone apps available on Mplayit, nearly 50 percent of the site traffic centered on games. Among Android users, only 20 percent of browsing focused on gaming applications. Even BlackBerry users are more fun-loving than Android users, with about 30 percent of activity coming from the games category.

The iPhone’s massive lead in the total number of apps may no longer be translating into a similar advantage in the marketplace.

Apple’s iPhone famously has many more apps than even its closest competitor (the iPhone has over 100,000 available, compared to about 20,000 Android apps and around 4,500 on Blackberry App World).
